Mausoleum of the First Emperor Qin Shihuang

The site of the terracotta warriors of Xi'An is probably one of the most stunning historical monuments in the world. Already in 246 BC, 13-year old emperor Qin Shihuang gave the order to build this monument. Only discovered in 1974 by a local farmer digging a well, this site with its over 6'000 terracotta soldiers might well be called the most important archaeological discovery of the 20th century.

Around 1.5 km west of the warriors, you can find the unopened tomb of Qin Shihuang. As today's technology does not allow to open such a tomb without destroying it, visitors may only imagine what kind of treasures are buried there. Many archaeologists suppose one of the world's most fantastic treasures underneath this hill.
