Hexi corridor is one of the most important strategic areas on the Silk Road. The impressive Jiayuguan fortress was China's last outpost before the "wild west of Asia" started and it was an important relais and trade station. Further east you will find with Zhangye Danxia Landorm one of the most spectacular and least known natural wonders of China. The inceedible amount of different color layers in the rocks are simply stunning and it's a feast for the eyes and an absolute paradise for any photogrpahy enthusiast. Dafo monastery in Zhangye is not only one of the most beautiful buddhist monasteries in China, it also houses the largest reclining Buddha in China and according to the legend, legendary Kublia Khan was born here. Matisi monastery is sepctacularly built into a sheer rock cliff and the drive through Hexi corridor offers a lot of variety and stunning vistas.
