In Chinese, Renminbi (RMB, 人民币, international currency code CNY) means "People's Currency". It is made up of Yuan (often called Kuai), Jiao (often called Mao) and Fen.
Coins are not very often used nowadays, but you will still get them, especially when you travel away from the big cities. Below you can see a 1 Yuan coin (left), a 5 Jiao coin (1/2 Yuan) and a 1 Jiao coin (1/10 Yuan).
These are Fen coins, which are rarely used in big cities, but you might still see them when you are on the road. 10 Fen equal 1 Jiao, 100 Fen equal 1 Yuan.
