Photos of Mount Kailash in Tibet

Mount Kailash is a very holy mountain in four religions located near Lake Manasarowar and Lake Rakshastal in Tibet and also one of the world's most important peaks that has not seen any known climbing attempts out of deference to religious beliefs. In Hinduism, Mount Kailash is considered as the abode of Lord Shiva and in Buddhism the mountain is believed to be the home of Buddha Demchok. In Bön - the old spiritual tradition of Tibet - Mount Kailash is regarded as the seat of all spiritual power and followers of the Jain religion believe that their faith's founder attained Nirvana here.

The old tradition and holy ritual of circumambulating Mount Kailash is supposed to bring good fortune. Every year thousands of believers make this 52 km long pilgrimage around Mount Kailash: Buddhists and Hinduists in a clockwise direction, Bönpo and Jains in a counterclockwise direction.
