This Tibet tour starts in Chengdu, the provincial capital of Sichuan province. Via the provinces of Shaanxi, Gansu and Qinghai, the train takes us to Lhasa, the capital city of Tibet. Here we will visit the Potala Palace, the winter residence of the Dalai Lama, as well as Barkhor Bazaar, Jokhang Temple and Sera Monastery.

Then we travel on to Shigatse, the second largest city of Tibet. On the way, we will visit the Drak Yerpa cave complex and the turquoise blue Yamdrok-Tso Lake and cross the Khampa-La Pass.

In Shigatse we explore Tashilhunpo Monastery, the former seat of the Panchen Lama. From here we start our overland drive into western Tibet and the Ngaris nomads area. We travel across seemingly endless steppes until we reach our destination: Holy Mount Kailash.

In three days, we will hike around Mount Kailash on the so-called pilgrim route Kora. We stay overnight in Drirapuk Monastery at the foot of the mountain, cross the Drolma Pass and finally reach the ancient western Tibetan Kingdom Guge via Zulpultruk and Lake Manasarovar. The site's frescoes and cave systems will most probably be enlisted on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites in 2010.

Via Tsamda, Lake Manasarovar and Shigatse we return to Lhasa, from where we will take the flight back to Chengdu in Sichuan province.
