Golf between extensions of Himalaya and Kunlun Mountain Range in the North and Yunnan's sutropicla south

Yunnan is one of the best known and sought-after travel regions in China and offers from alpine to subtropical climate nearly everything. The north with Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, Lugu Lake, Shangri La and the Kawakarpo (Meili) mountain range attracts due to its mountainous surroundings and rich minority cultural life lots of Chinese travelers. 27 out of the 54 Chinese minorities are to be found in Yunnan, hence the cultural heritage is extensive.
The south with the region of Xishuangbanna and the border area to Laos, Burma and Vietnam offers a very comfortable subtropic climate.

For golfers Lijiang with the two golf courses Jade Dragon Snow Mountain and Lijiang Ancient Town GC is definitely a destination worth a trip. Jade Dragon is with 3100 meters above sea level the highest golf course in the northern hemisphere and with a 8545 Yards the course has one of the longest fairways in the world. Lijiang has since 1996 UNESCO world heritage status and its old town is a fascinating maze of bustling small alleys with traditional wooden houses and countless shops, bars and restaurants. There are lots of charming small guest houses and boutique hotels to be found and with Crowne Plaza it has a great 5* Hotel right beside the old town and with Banyan Tree and Pullman Resorts and Spa two high-end resorts in the vicinity and by the end of 2014 an Aman Resort will open its gates right in the old town on the iconic Lion Hill. Easiest way to get to Lijiang is by a one hour flight from Kunming, but nowadays there are more direct flights popping up from the large cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu

Around one driving hour southeast of Kunming there is with Spring City one of the most famous golf resorts in China. The Mountain Course, designed by Jack Niklaus, offers a great view over Yang Zonghai Lake and the surrounding lakes and its strategically places bunkers are even for experienced golfers challenging. The Lake Course was desgined by Robert Trent Jones JR. and is located in various terraces on the shores of Yang Zonghai Lake. Even a bit more spectacular form the view than the mountain course, this is one of the iconic courses in China

Another hour drive from Spring City one can find the 2011 opened Stone Forest Golf Course (Schmidt-Curley Design), which is located right beside the damous Shilin Stone Forest. With a total of 54 holes on the courses Yufeng Ridge (A), MasterĀ“s Resort (B) and LeadersĀ“s Peak (C), Leaders Peak is for members only, Stone Forest offers thanks to the bizarre stone formations a totally unique golfing experience and is in itself already nearly worth a trip to China. Combined with Spring City and Lijiang the Yunann region offers for golfers of all levels a truly unique and literally breathtaking experience.
