First we drive to the Olympic Venue to visit the Bird’s Nest, the Olympic Stadium designed by Swiss Architects Herzog-Demeuron and Chinese artist Ay Weiwei, from the outside. Then we head to the Summer Palace for a visit. The Summer Palace is to be found in northwestern Beijing and served the emperors to escape from the burning heat of the city center of Beijing. The Kunming Lake dominates a large part of the park and on its north shore you find the Longevity Hill. Apart from the Hall of Benevolence and Longevity, there are a few Buddhist temples. On the north shore, you can also find empress Dowager Cixi´s famous marble boat. Afterwards we drive back to town where we have a lunch. In the afternoon we will visit the less traveled Hutongs, where not many tourists are to be seen. We visit a local market and our expert Zhang Lijia will explain more about the social situation of the migrant workers and the democratic movement from 1989. At around 17:30 return with the sidecars to the Hotel. Rest of the evening is free.
