Emeishan - Jiayang - Anren

Program

Day 1 Day 2 Day 3 Day 4 Day 5 (Overview)

After breakfast you will leave for Jiayang which is approximately 1.5 hours drive. At Jiayang you will board the small gauge steam train. This train was built in 1934 to supply the Bajiaogou coal mining town. The ride takes around 1:15 hours and takes you along lush fields, small villages, rice paddies into a remote valley to the town of Bajiaogou. The architecture of the town has some Victorian elements, as it was built in a joint project between China and Britain, but most of the structures are from the Mao Era. When the coal mining operations stopped in the 1980-ies, the town was more or less left untouched, so there are countless remains of the Cultural Revolution period and it offers a rare chance in China to still get a glimpse into this period of China. From Bajiao Gou drive around 1.5 hours to Anren, where you will stay overnight in a small boutique hotel designed with Mao or Red Guard era themes.
